Fiera di Primiero is a small mountain town surrounded by the wonderful Dolomites, where beauty is in sight everywhere you look and in winter you can enjoy the smell of wooden fire.
It is called “la Fiera” in our local dialect and it is an ancient town, which makes you feel up in the mountains even if it is only 710 metres above sea level. Its 360 view is breath-taking. North you can see the Pale di San Martino, one of the most impressive set of peaks in the Dolomites. Meanwhile, South and West, you can enjoy the mountains surrounding Feltre, the Vette Feltrine, in particular, Mount Pavione, characterised by an unmistakable pyramidal shape and Lagorai Mountains.
Luigi Negrelli, the famous civil engineer who designed the Suez Canal was born here. You can find the house where he was born on the same square where you will also have the opportunity to visit the Palace of the old mines, which now hosts the Primiero History and Archive Centre. When you will stroll around town, do not forget to have a look at the church of the Assunta, which is in gothic style, and at the small church of San Martino.
Fiera di Primiero is one of the area included in the Paneveggio-Pale di San Martino natural park, a nature reserve, which covers almost 20,000 hectars in the eastern Trentino region. In this park you can find the evocative and centuries-old Paneveggio Forest and the Pale di San Martino peaks that mix together with the sky. To learn all the secrets and sounds of nature, the Paneveggio-Pale di San Martino natural park has three visitor centres: the visitor centre water and history (Villa Welsperg in Val Canali, 7 km from the hotel), the visitor centre Earth-Forest (in Paneveggio) and the visitor centre geology and life in the mountains (in San Martino di Castrozza, 12 km from the hotel). In the Natural Park Paneveggio Pale di San Martino there are hiking trails for any taste and level of experience: from expert hikers and Nordic walkers to families with small children. Moreover, couples looking for a romantic escape, should not miss the picturesque town of Mezzano and its famous “canzei” (3 km from the hotel).
Trentino is one of the most famous and sought-after mountain areas in Europe and in the world for skiing. The San Martino di Castrozza Ski Resort is only 20 minutes drive away from the Isolabella Hotel and a bit further on you can also enoy the Ski Resort of Passo Rolle (1989 metres). Both resorts are members of the Dolomiti Superski area, which is a real ski paradise.
From Passo Rolle start many trekking and hiking trails. The most famous one we want to remeber is the trail through which you get to Baita Segantini (2170 metres).
